- The McGill thyroid nodule score can be used primarily if the FNAB results are indeterminate (15-48% of all biopsies)
- It has been shown that the McGill thyroid nodule score correlates the risk of malignancy
- It has also been shown that thyroid nodules with indeterminate FNAB results which were subsequently found to be malignant by postoperative histopathology have a higher median McGill thyroid nodule score (9) than nodules which were found to be benign (7)
