About the score
The Lund-Mackay score first assigns each side of all sinuses a score of: 0 – normal 1 – partial opacification 2 – complete opacification
The ostiomeatal complex is graded differently:0 – not obstructed 2 – obstructed
The maximum of the score is 24
Despite its intentional simplicity the Lund-Mackay score was found to correlate well with symptoms and other markers of disease severity It was also found that preoperative Lund-Mackay scores of patients prior to sinus surgery correlate with postoperative quality of life Brooks SG, Trope M, Blasetti M, Doghramji L, Parasher A, Glicksman JT, Kennedy DW, Thaler ER, Cohen NA, Palmer JN, Adappa ND. Preoperative Lund-Mackay computed tomography score is associated with preoperative symptom severity and predicts quality-of-life outcome trajectories after sinus surgery.
